Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Description:
North Pole Engineering is seeking a talented, motivated Principal Electrical Engineer. This position requires a candidate with strong communication skills, the ability to analyze and document customer requirements. As a lead member of NPE's technical team, you will work directly with customers to help define product requirements, define architecture, perform detailed design work and lead other technical team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management including monitoring schedule and budget, client communication and leading the engineering team to assure successful project completion.
  • Perform detailed design of microprocessor based platforms and related analog/digital circuits.
  • Conduct design analysis on designs ensuring manufacturability, cost efficiency, reliability and meeting customer requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including architecture, detail design, operation and verification test documents.
  • Lead design team, monitor schedule and budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide technical guidance to other team members, including instructing and verifying their work.

Job Requirements:

  • BSEE with a minimum of 10 years' experience in digital design.
  • Minimum 3 years as a team leader.
  • Solid understanding of design processes.
  • Experience with the Altium toolset - schematic capture, BOM and/or PCB layout.

This position requires the candidate to work in our Minneapolis MN office.


 

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description
North Pole Engineering (NPE) is an electrical engineering consulting and product development company based in the Minneapolis, MN area. NPE provides engineering consulting services for companies in a wide variety of industries, some of which include fitness, wireless, industrial, and medical. NPE is the Xilinx FPGA training consultant in the Midwest region. NPE also manufactures our own products for OEM clients in the fitness and wireless connectivity areas including IoT.

We are seeking a talented, motivated senior level Embedded Software Engineer. This position will be responsible for working with a wide variety of microprocessors, wireless and control technologies in a small team environment. Previous projects have included motor control, interfacing with iOS and Android applications, and data collection from a wide assortment of sensors. The successful candidate will convert requirements to an efficient, robust implementation by defining the design architecture, implementing the firmware and creating tests to verify operation against requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Good low-level debugging skills.
  • Extensive experience using embedded C.
  • Comfortable working with bare-metal or RTOS based designs.
  • 3 to 6 years’ experience in embedded firmware development.
  • Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent.

Desired Skills

  • Ability to work with hardware to debug problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to document in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience with embedded TDD.
  • Familiarity with the operation of logic analyzers and other electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, WiFi, BLE, ANT.
  • Familiarity with ARM Cortex-M processors including STM32 and nRF52.

Principal Hardware Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a talented, motivated Principal Level Hardware Engineer.  As a member of NPE's technical team, you will work directly with an exciting cross functional team comprised of software and firmware engineers, external technical resources, project management and customers to achieve desired outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to electrical hardware team members, including instructing and verifying team members’ work.
  • Perform detailed designs of analog/digital circuits to include FPGA and microprocessor based projects.
  • Conduct design analysis to ensure manufacturability, reliability and client electrical requirements are met.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including architecture, detailed design and verification test documents.
  • Maintain and evolve internal design and release standards & guidelines.
  • Maintain proper documentation and revision control infrastructure.

Job Requirements

  • BSEE with a minimum of 10 years' experience in digital design.
  • Pride in workmanship and product delivery.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and computer engineering, including high speed signal integrity, unintended RF emissions reduction, electrical susceptibility reduction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and technical communication skills.
  • Experience with and advocacy for using revision control system such as SVN.
  • Dedication to continued professional development and education.
  • Experience with the schematic and PCB design tools and knowledge of PCB manufacturing.
  • Experience with the Altium tool chain - schematic capture, BOM and/or PCB layout is a plus.
